How Oconee found the money for budget additions
Higher airport fuel sales, along with unexpected Oconee County interest income, allowed County Council this week to add $1.4 million to the current budget, according to Matthew Durham, the council chairman. Durham says the monies are to buy a new compactor for the landfill and upgrade personal safety equipment that, with advanced technology, will enhance the safety of county sheriff’s officers. The council received a request from Sheriff Crenshaw to replace decade-old weapons, as those firearms are now less reliable because of normal wear and tear and the number of rounds fired during training each year.
