History Museum welcomes back visitors

The following announcement by the Oconee History Museum in Walhalla:

“Oconee History Museum is excited to announce that it will be resuming in-person programming and special events.  The COVID-19 pandemic forced Oconee History Museum to shift its community programs to online platforms like ZOOM in order to prioritize patron safety while continuing its mission to promote the rich history of Oconee County.

“The past 2 years have been difficult.  So much of what we do at the museum has always been aimed at engaging with the community and providing opportunities for people to come together.  Our immediate response to the pandemic was to, of course, prioritize the health and safety of our staff and visitors, but to also find ways to continue our mission and help our community as we all navigated such sudden change.  The pandemic pushed us to be adaptive, creative, and responsive to the new needs of our community.  But after 2 years we are very ready to see our friends again,” said Director/Curator Leslie Hagerty.

On Tuesday, May 24th one of Oconee History Museum will resume one of its most well-attended program formats – Lunch & Learn.  This first Lunch & Learn, entitled “Dark Corners & Blind Tigers: Moonshining and Prohibition in Oconee County”, will feature Josh Johnson, Museum Site Coordinator at the Bart Garrison Agricultural Museum of South Carolina.  Johnson will illustrate the tumultuous times during the late 19th and early 20th centuries when liquor and the law often butted heads.

Oconee History Museum looks forward to offering lectures, hands-on classes and other engaging programs throughout the coming months.  For more information, visit www.oconeehistorymuseum.org”
