High-speed chase near Walhalla

For Oconee law enforcement, the New Year’s weekend started Friday night with a chase that, as one bystander described it, “They were letting the gravel fly” – a reference to the dirt road when the vehicle chase came to a stop.  The location was Cody Lane near SC 28/the Highlands Highway.  Sheriff Mike Crenshaw said suspicion led officers to check the plate registration.  The tag did not match the vehicle, Crenshaw said.   He said, “Driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot.”  By Saturday morning, his whereabouts were unknown.  The Walhalla police joined the search.  While the driver ran, his passenger, a female, will not be charged, according to the sheriff.  The investigation continued.
