Halfway house not in the immediate future for Jason Mark Carter

The crime of a young man who killed his parents, it was demonstrated in 2022, is not the type of a horrific crime to be forgiven any time soon—even though Jason Mark Carter had been found not guilty by reason of insanity.  A request on behalf of Carter to be allowed to be released from the state Department of Mental Health to a community residential care facility at Hopkins, South Carolina was denied.  Judge McIntosh said he was troubled by the concerns of a psychiatrist who examined Carter.  In his order, the judge expressed discomfort over Carter’s “inability” to recognize that he murdered both his mother and his stepfather at their home.
