Greenway business for Oconee and Walhalla

Greenway proponents say trails can be used for recreation, to save energy, and other benefits that can be a blessing.  But others say, for cash-strapped governments, greenways are a luxury at a time when government struggles to provide basic services.  Money to pay for greenways was discussed at last night’s county council meeting and at Walhalla city hall, where we are told, a vote to fund a greenway thru the city narrowly passed.  County Council last night got a pep talk from Andy Blondeau, the Clemson city administrator, and from Chad Carson, vie president of the Green Crescent Trail.  They talked the advantages of a region greenway to stretch between Oconee, Anderson, and Pickens.  Paul Cain, in his last year on council, said, “I believe in greenways” and he added it’s his hope that a majority of the council will support them.
