Grading Oconee schools’ success

Two Walhalla principals told the county trustees they are determined to improve the scores their schools received in last week’s statewide school report cards.  Scott Dixon is not satisfied that his Walhalla Middle School ranking dropped to “good” from “excellent”.  And Jennifer Crawford of Walhalla High conceded her school has room to grow, having been scored “average.”  Andy Smith, assistant district superintendent, categorized what Dixon and Crawford had to say as typical examples of the attitudes being taken by all principals countywide.  And already, according to Smith, each school has started to review the scoring data and each is setting goals to improve.  In the rankings for 16 Oconee schools, only Ravenel Elementary received an excellent rating.  One school, Fair-Oak Elementary, was “below average.”
