Going on now — a Central Oconee sewer basin study meeting

Fair Play has a sewer basin study; now it’s time for a triangular area of Oconee County to receive one.  During the two o’clock hour this afternoon, a representative of a planning and engineering turned to a well-attended Walhalla meeting for an inter-active discussion of where new sewer is liable to be needed within and around the triangle formed by Seneca, Walhalla, and Westminster. Members of the company Belton and Menk are hoping for a frank and thoughtful dialogue with a wide array of county and municipal officials and others as to their concerns about the need to expand Oconee sewer and, specifically, where in the county is there the highest growth potential.  To help figure that out, the planners have gathered data on population projections, new housing starts and the like.  What’s evident is that there are mixed opinions as to how Oconee’s population will change by the middle of the 21st century.  For instance, is the county likely to balloon to an excess of 100 thousand residents or will population changes be more gradual.  Those in today’s meeting were told that in 2022 alone, there were more than one thousand new addresses countywide and 675 so far this year.
