Full body scanner to stop jail contraband

On March 26 the Oconee Detention Center learned that it has been awarded a grant of nearly $219 thousand dollars for a full body scanner.  The objective to help stop contraband from getting inside the jail.  And, with its capability for thermal scanning, the sophisticated equipment is capable of limiting the transmission of COVID-19 among the jail population.  Yesterday that jail population stood at 230 inmates.  Before county fathers on Tuesday night:  accept a Federal Subaward from DHEC in an amount to not exceed $218,700 and approve the purchase of a TeK84 Intercept Body Scanner from Tek84 of Poway, California in the amount of $214,650.
