Former Walhallan’s eye on mountaineer “magic”

The rise by a small western North Carolina university into collegiate football prominence is not lost on anyone familiar with Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina–especially not to a former Walhallan who has a gift of penmanship.  So, it’s natural that Mark Powell, an English instructor at ASU, has put on paper a new article for the publication Garden & Gun.  The title of the article seems to say it all, “Boone, North Carolina:  A Hippie Town with a (Serious) Football Problem.”
