Forecast: prescribed burn “minimal” effect on skyline

Today’s prescribed burn of 831 acres north of Walhalla is liable to have only a “minimal” effect on today’s sunshine.  Smoke impacts are forecast from SC 11 and surrounding area, with some of the smoke across Lake Keowee.  Spokesman for the U-S Forest Service says the USFS, in conjunction with the Oconee State Park and a nearby land owner, plans the prescribed burn in the vicinity of Ross Road for the purpose of  “fuels reduction, wildlife, and to promote regeneration of native fire tolerant species on upland sites.”
