For the jury, it’s a field trip to the property

Oconee court bailiffs are transporting a civil jury to 40 acres of property near Westminster this afternoon so that the jurors will have been able to see the acreage that is subject of a special proceeding this week in the Court of Common Pleas.  A determination of “just compensation” will be duty of the jury in the case of Central Electric Power of Columbia vs. Donald and Debbie Slisher.  Central Electric Power is a cooperative that, according to one of its attorneys, supplies electricity to all South Carolina co-ops and seeks to connect two of its substations.  The Slishers have balked at what Central Electric offered, so both sides have lawyers and this is the week for the trial. The Slishers’ property is on the Dr. John’s Road.
