For now, “off the front burner”

A period of time will pass, perhaps a couple of months, before Oconee school trustees decide the fate of a large Seneca building and property.  Dr. Thorsland, district superintendent, announced last night that the administration will take a step back and further study what’s to become of Seneca Middle School on WS 4th Street once the replacement complex is ready on the Wells Highway.  Addressing the trustees last night, Thorsland did not rule out the possibility that the district might find an alternate education use for the WS 4th Street building and property.  He pronounced the issue “off the front burner” and now on “the back burner.”  The trustees heard what Thorsland said without comment in response.  What becomes of the current middle school was on the minds of at least two persons who addressed the trustees during the public comment part of the work session.  One person requested she be allowed to develop a foster home there for children 10 to 18 years old.  A second speaker explained that a second interested party, the Dream Center of Easley, withdrew its interest.  That apparently leaves city of Seneca which would envision the location as an expansion of recreation resources adjoining the T-W “Shorty” Shaver Recreation Complex.
