For 50 years, the Chattooga has carried a special designation

In the Visit Oconee newsletter, written by Chanda Morrison, tribute is paid to the river that serves as the boundary between Oconee County, South Carolina and Rabun County, Georgia.  The occasion is the 50th years since the Chattooga River officially became a Wild and Scenic River, under a federal law requiring that the river, along with one-quarter of a mile boundary on each side, remains natural and undeveloped forever.
