First witness testifies in Oconee civil trial

An Oconee jury has a major assignment this week.  The jurors are being tasked to decide if a former state prisoner who has completed his sentence as a sex offender is likely to re-offend.  In opening arguments, the state’s attorney and the defense lawyer told the jury they will hear from two physicians who have opposite opinions on whether Christopher Trent Wilder meets the criteria of a sexually violent predator.  First to testify this afternoon is state’s witness Dr. Emily Gottfried of MUSC — the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
