Financial I-D fraud arrest

A three-month financial fraud investigation by the Oconee Sheriff’s Office led to the arrest yesterday of a 42-year old Seneca woman.  Law enforcement records show multiple charges of financial identity fraud and financial transaction card fraud against Christie Leann Smith of Clinkscale Road.  The sheriff’s office began an investigation in June on receipt of the report of the theft of a cell phone belonging to an organizer of a yard sale.  After canceling debit and credit cards, the victim began getting text messages that someone had begun to use her financial card information at stores, on the web and at a bank.
