Financial crime cops detect alarming trend

The financial crime investigators for the Oconee Sheriff’s Office have detected an alarming trend — especially as it relates to a scam by Bank of America imposters.  Jimmy Watt, the master deputy and spokesman for the sheriff’s office, says emails have been sent to individuals involving accounts being opened in their names, using their social security numbers.  In some cases, the cops say, bank account information has been stolen and used to make counterfeit checks.  “Financial Crimes Investigators are recommending that individuals monitor their credit card and banking account information on a regular basis,” Watt says.
