Federal money for battery electric buses

Federal funds of $3.9 million have been authorized for “CAT”–the Clemson Area Transit–to buy as many as five zero emission battery electric buses to replace old diesel buses that have exceeded their useful life.  The U-S Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration made the announcement.  The new buses will be designed to improve service for Clemson students and residents of areas surrounding the campus.  The FTA announced $1.66 billion in grants to transit agencies, territories, and states to invest in 150 bus fleets and facilities.  The money comes from the President’s bi-partisan infrastructure law.  A goal of President Biden is to reduce air pollution and arrive at net-zero emissions by 2050.
