Families in need are being helped at Thanksgiving time

As many as 125 Oconee families in need are receiving Thanksgiving meals, thanks to a partnership involving the county sheriff’s office and others.  The meal distribution started yesterday involving a partnership among the sheriff’s office, Publix in Seneca, and the Isaiah 40:31 Foundation.  “Last Christman, an anonymous donor with the Isaiah 40:31 Foundation made a $5,000 donation that allowed deputies to hand out $50 bills to citizens and families in our county,” said Sheriff Mike Crenshaw.  He estimates the donor’s generosity this time will have a positive effect on as many as 400 to 500 needy Oconeeans.  With the help of the Publix supermarket, the meals consist of a turkey, candied yams, gravy, potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, rolls and a pumpkin pie.  Families benefitting were nominated by fellow Oconee County residents.  According to the King James Version of the Bible, Isaiah 40:31 says, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
