Empty park could soon be pad ready

Bids have been opened to clear land for a pad ready site within Oconee’s empty Golden Corner Commerce Park, and the county administrator says Oconee has learned valuable lessons in today’s climate of luring new economic development that can mean jobs and a stronger tax base.  Amanda Brock, the county administrator, confirms the county opened contractor’s bids this week that will now require certification from the county’s procurement office before an announcement is made.  101.7/WGOG NEWS has received an unconfirmed report that a contractor from South Carolina’s Pee Dee submitted the apparent low bid and that an Oconee contractor was second highest.  To have ready a 42-acre site on the sprawling former hayfield on SC 59 is seen by officials to be an asset for the Oconee Economic Alliance and the State Department of Commerce to show off to economic interests.  Brock says the lesson the county has learned trying to develop Golden Corner is industrial developers want to see something more than raw land.
