Economic recruiter envisions changes to southern Oconee

It’s possible, says Jamie Gilbert, that a couple of Oconee economic development projects could come through before December 31.  Or they could, as the county’s E-D recruiter explained today, bleed over into 2024.  Which is a year Gilbert sees as one that’s going to bring new jobs and strengthen the tax base — especially if “Project Wash” comes to be.  “Wash” is interested in the Golden Corner Commerce Park and, according to what Gilbert told the State of Oconee luncheon — Oconee is competing with only one other location for the operation, and it’s in another country.  Gilbert’s remarks at today’s Oconee Chamber of Commerce event preceded featured speaker, Charleston resident and Walhalla native Dr. Theresa Gonzales.  She gave an uplifting talk about her memories of Oconee, the families who helped settle Walhalla, and the quality of life that the South Carolina’s northwest corner county she believes stands up well when compared to other places.  101.7/WGOG NEWS will re-play some of Gonzales’ comments on our airwaves Monday.
