Durham suspension rescinded

The approximate 11-month suspension of the Oconee County councilman Matthew Durham is rescinded by order of the governor.  Henry McMaster, the governor, and Mark Hammond, the secretary of state, affixed their signatures yesterday to an executive order that lifts Durham’s suspension immediately.  It has the effect of restoring the county council to full membership and lessens the chance for deadlock and non-conclusive 2-2 votes, as council constituents have witnessed in recent months.  Executive Order 2023-06 includes the following Whereas:  “the Office of the Attorney General recently notified the undersigned that the above-referenced charges against Matthew Durham have been dismissed and that the aforementioned Indictments have been disposed of by entry of a nolle prosequi….”
