Durham opposes high density student housing

Here is a statement from Matthew Durham, the suspended District Two Oconee County councilman:  “I oppose giving incentives and property tax breaks to high density residential developments that bring in hundreds to thousands of new residents/students that will consume county services and resources while not paying their fair share due to the tax cuts and incentives they receive.”  Because the allegations in Durham’s General Sessions case remain pending, he is not permitted a vote tomorrow night when Project “Greenpaw” goes before the other four councilmen.  Greenpaw is the name given to a Texas developer’s request for special source credits toward the housing complexes he wishes to build on 123 properties between Paws Restaurant and Greenfield manufacturing.  Members of the board of the Joint Regional Sewer Authority and others have said what distinguishes developer Brent Little’s plan is an offer to pay approximately one million dollars toward the cost to connect pipe sewer to his complexes.
