Dual events benefitted veterans

Anyone trying to drive thru Walhalla Monday morning found out there were two events that temporarily changed the traffic flow, and they were events to remember and benefit veterans.  As one passing motorist queried one fire fighter, “Is there a parade going on?”  It wasn’t a parade.  Instead, it was a walk and run to raise money for needy veterans, followed by the county’s Memorial Day ceremony to remember 210 men who lost their lives in military service, along with the chance to honor all living veterans for their service.  Official numbers aren’t final, but Jerry Dyar says it appears the veterans’ relief fund will be benefit by about $10 thousand dollars.  As many as 200 walkers and runners took part, including one veteran who maneuvered the course in a wheelchair.
