Drug killers of Oconeeans

The newest report pegs the increase of all drug over-doses across South Carolina at 53%–from 1,131 to 1,734 according to the numbers analyzed for the latest period, from 2019 to 2020.  “There is no question”, says the man in charge of DHEC, “that substance use disorders represent a public health crisis in South Carolina.”  A table of drug deaths county by county shows six Oconeeans lost their lives to Fentanyl between 2019-20; one to heroin; and one to cocaine.  In all 13 Oconeeans perished to drug overdoses.  Eleven of those deaths were prescription drug overdoses.
