Drug case made from Wells Highway traffic stop
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Seneca man Wednesday evening, on a charge of Trafficking in Methamphetamine, after over 2 pounds of the drug were seized as part of a traffic stop.
36 year old Randall Joseph Emery was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 10:05pm. Besides the drug charge, Emery has also been charged with one count each of Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime and Resisting Arrest. Emery also had an outstanding arrest warrant on a Sex Offender Registry Violation.
A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division conducted a traffic stop on Wells Highway near Seneca Wednesday evening on a white Nissan Altima. Emery is listed as an owner of the vehicle and Emery had the outstanding arrest warrant through the Sheriff’s Office.
During the course of the traffic stop, Emery exited the vehicle from the passenger side and ran away on foot, carrying a bag that he took from the vehicle. After Emery lost his footing, the deputy was able to place Emery into custody and retrieved the bag.
A search of the bag produced zip-lock bags that contained a quantity of Methamphetamine. A handgun was also located near the passenger side door. Upon further investigation, the amount of Methamphetamine seized was approximately 2.2 pounds, according to the arrest warrant.
A female, who was the driver of the vehicle, was released from the scene. The Nissan Altima was towed away from the scene.
The outstanding arrest warrant against Emery for the Sex Offender Registry Violation states that Emery failed to report a change of address, as mandated by his court ordered registry guidelines, as Emery returned to Oconee County on April 16th of this year without registering his new address.
At this time, Emery remains in custody at the Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
