Drawing Council’s attention to home-building

Some Oconeeans who were part of Monday’s county planning commission meeting made their feelings known during last night’s county council meeting.  They are of one thought when it comes to the proliferating home-building in the county – they believe the county fathers should insist on stronger standards for large subdivision developers.  First to speak last night was Sharon DeRidder who suggested that a moratorium might be wise.  She pleaded with the council to guard against the county resembling the urban Florida city from which she moved.  Jeff Jones, a custom home builder, echoed some of DeRidder’s comments and called for the county to stop large-sized developers from clear-cutting, stripping the land as he put it.  Frankie Pearson, former chairman of the planning commission, warned council that the 18-hundred home development proposed alongside side 2-lane SC 130, in his opinion, is “only the beginning.”
