Does Walhalla have a smelly problem?

Libby Imbody, the Walhalla Main Street director, pointed out some feathers in the cap of the County Seat which has been trying to re-birth parts of its dormant downtown and keep cash registers ringing at the city’s other places of commerce.  Imbody says the image Walhalla is getting from visitors from the outside is encouraging and the crowds that the city’s festivals have drawn are complimentary of Oconee’s second largest municipality.  Another bright spot which Imbody told city council is worthy of savoring is the news that Clemson University is occupying much of what had been an empty county building and will make it the base home for its statewide public health outreach program. Not all is well, however, a couple of council members complained last night that the city is developing a litter problem, made worse by some smells that emanate from inside trash cans.  This was discussed at length last night, without a resolution.  Councilman Underwood, whose family runs a Main Street business, said, “We are smelling it, too.”
