“Day of the Dead” to be a joyful celebration

Oconee Parks, Recreation and Tourism invites people of all ages for Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration this Saturday at the High Falls Park on Lake Keowee.  Admittance is free to the 10 am to 3 pm celebration featuring vendors, food trucks, sugar skull decorating, a performance by Mariachi Jalisco, and, at the end of the festival, a screening of the movie Coco.  Liz Johnson, park superintendent, says, “Through this celebration, we honor our loved ones and keep their memory alive.”  She adds:  “….if you’re unfamiliar with Dia Los Muertos, this is an opportunity to learn more.”  Attendees are invited to contribute items that honor their late loved ones and are encouraged to bring a photograph of those past and an object that represents something they loved….” Items may be brought to High Falls Park any time during business hours.  The altar is on display in the Patio Deck through the end of the festival Saturday.
