Crime in the home leads to arrest

A Seneca man remains in jail today, pending a bond
hearing, on charges of Kidnapping and Domestic Violence of a High and Aggravated Nature.
31 year old Matthew Shane Durham, of Morgan Lane, was booked into the Oconee County
Detention Center around 10:54am Thursday. Durham was arrested after deputies conducted an
investigation in response to a disturbance call yesterday morning on Edens Lane near Seneca.
Upon arriving on scene, deputies from the Uniform Patrol Bureau began their investigation after
making contact with Durham and the victim, an adult female. Deputies observed a physical
manifestation on the victim due to an assault that had occurred. Deputies also gathered evidence
from the scene.
A deputy also administered first aid to the victim by applying a tourniquet to one of the victim’s
legs due to bleeding. As the investigation continued, deputies learned that the victim’s freedom
of movement was restricted as the victim was reportedly not allowed to leave the bathroom of
the residence from Wednesday evening until Thursday morning.
The victim was transported to the hospital for further treatment. After Durham was placed under
arrest, he was transported to jail.
According to arrest warrants, Durham held the victim prisoner, unlawfully seizing and confining
her, as well as choking her, punching her with his fist and stabbing her twice in the left thigh
with a folding pocket knife.
