Crash after chase injures motorcyclist

A motorcyclist, not yet publicly identified, was reported in serious condition after a chase yesterday afternoon by Georgia state troopers.  WLHR Lake Hartwell Radio in Lavonia received the following account from Sgt. Ray Dean of Post 52:  “At approximately 1:50p, Troopers from Post 52 (Hartwell) attempted to stop a blue motorcycle for speeding (91 mph in a 70 mph zone) and no tag on Interstate 85 Northbound Exit 173 off-ramp near GA 17 in Franklin County. The driver of the motorcycle initiated a vehicle pursuit onto GA 17 and turned left into the RaceWay Gas Station parking lot.  The motorcycle sped through the parking lot and entered back onto GA 17.  As the motorcycle traveled westbound on GA 17 in the eastbound outside lane, a black Dodge Ram 350 with a 40-foot trailer was attempting to turn left onto the Interstate 85 Southbound Exit 173 on ramp.  The motorcycle struck the rear driver’s side of the Dodge with its front.”  To the motorcyclist, Dean said, troopers rendered aid, including CPR and the use of the state-issued AED.  Once released from hospital, the troopers say, they plan several charges.
