County to keep up Pointe West streets

Provided conditions are met, Oconee County is willing to maintain streets inside the sprawling Pointe West housing development at the edge of the county near Clemson University.  Agreement was made in a 3-0 county council special meeting vote this morning.  Two councilmen, Cain and Durham, missed the meeting.  Oconee’s relationship with the project dates back more than 10 years when the county granted financial incentives to spur economic growth on property abandoned when West Point Stevens’ manufacturing plant went out of business there.  Accepting the streets hinges on whether certain assurances are satisfied.  They are spelled out in a motion by Councilman Davis which is being aired today on 101.7/WGOG NEWS.  Developer Neal Workman says two streets are involved,  Queen’s Point Loop and Edinburgh Way.  His partner, Tom Winkopp, says about 1,700 people live in Pointe West.  Six of ten are university students.
