County fathers to consider grant applications

In its first July meeting next week, the Oconee County Council will have plenty to consider—especially when it comes to grant applications, particularly putting up local money to supplement what the feds are offering.  The largest consideration is an estimated $7.2 million project to allow the Rogers Group of Greer to re-hab the runway pavement for the Oconee Regional Airport.  The local airport’s engineering service provider, W-K Dickson, stands to receive a $396 thousand contract associated with the project.  According to Tuesday’s meeting agenda, airport manager Jeff Garrison has verbal notification from the FAA that the runway pavement rehabilitation project grant is in process.  Also, Tuesday the council will be requested to pass a resolution to support Upcountry Fiber’s intent to apply for grants from the American Rescue Plan Act.  Part of the application process is a stipulation that money would go to serve under-served areas in Oconee and the Upstate that are on the wrong side of the digital divide.
