Councilmen appear to welcome a new anti-junk law

The members of the appropriate council committee reacted positively yesterday to the idea of adopting an ordinance to regulate commercial junkyards across Oconee County.  But the chairman, Don Mize, also said because the county planning commission has just now received new members, the ordinance which the commission has been working on should go back to the planning commission for further consideration.   And the idea of amendments should not be ruled out, as Chairman Mize wondered whether there should be certain exceptions to requiring a business to rid its grounds of junk.  Committee member Matthew Durham said, as the result of a mass email he sent, he has received about 100 responses from Oconeeans about a commercial junkyard law, and he will assemble those responses and relay them to the planning commission.
