Cost projections exceed “C” Fund allotments

Cost projections for roadwork in the town of Salem and for projects at three rural Oconee County locations exceed the amounts previously approved by the county’s state “C” Fund Committee.  But the committee members this morning agreed to work with Salem and the local DOT to undertake at least parts of the project with an eye toward replenishing the project accounts at a later time.  According to Sam Dickson, there could be as much as a $4 to $5 million shortfall in the amounts previously designated for Goddard Avenue, Sitton Mill Road, and Poplar Springs Road.  It’s not surprising, considering the rate of inflation, according to Salem’s Marti Jennings, as she reported to the committee on the bids that had been received to repair sidewalks, Salem’s rock wall, and resurface Barkdale Drive.
