Communications tower approved in upper Oconee

On Bad Creek hydro project land belonging to Duke Energy, approval was given last night to allow for the county’s tallest communications tower.  A variance and a special exception to Oconee’s zoning regulations were approved last night by the county board of appeals without opposition.  Duke intends to use the tower for communication networking with its optic and microwave networks.  But there’s potential for improved cell phone service in one of the county’s deadest zones as, at some point, cell companies can apply to attach to the tower.  The location is 100 Bad Creek Road not far from North Carolina, where a number of residents of that section of the state desire improved cell service.
