Collection point to aid Kentucky victims

A former Salem mayor is heading a local effort this week to collect and transport relief items to victims of the eastern Kentucky flooding.  Having visited Kentucky last week, Thurmond Coward has chosen the hard-hit town of Whitesburg to which he’ll truck food and other items.  The Louisville Journal Journal reports that a Whitesburg medical clinic sustained more than one foot of mud and water inside.  If you can spare food stuff to place into Coward’s Kentucky-bound trailer, bring it to the Coward home at 10 Park Avenue, across from town hall.  Because victim searches remain in progress, it’s likely the earliest that Coward’s relief truck can get into the affected areas will be the first of next week.
