Clout re-arranged inside municipal group

The Walhalla, West Union, and Westminster mayors grabbed key offices last night within the county’s organized group of municipalities.  It was a rare meeting of the Oconee Municipal Association, and the first since the strife created within the county’s Joint Regional Sewer Authority.  There might now be more municipal association meetings, as the association is now led by West Union’s Linda Oliver.  Mayor Oliver succeeds Seneca’s Joel Ward as chairman; Walhalla’s Danny Edwards is the new vice-chair; and Westminster’s Brian Ramey is the new delegate to the board of the region government service agency, South Carolina “A-COG”.  In that capacity, Ramey succeeds Seneca’s Dana Moore, who made a presentation at last night’s meeting detailing the services offered through the South Carolina Appalachian Council of Governments through its headquarters at Greenville.  Last night’s meeting of the Oconee Municipal Association was the first since Seneca made known its intent to, potentially, ask a court to rule on the makeup of another body of inter-government cooperation in Oconee–the Joint Regional Sewer Authority.  In her comments to reporters after the meeting, West Union Mayor Oliver said an objective for the municipal association going forward is to overcome the strife that the sewer discord has created.  Additionally, Oliver offered what she believes is a solution, and that suggestion can be heard today on 101.7/WGOG NEWS.
