Closings today for the new Juneteenth holiday

America’s newest national holiday is observed Monday, but Juneteenth fell on Sunday this year, and was marked across the country with parades and services. On Monday all federal offices, US Post Offices, the New York Stock Exchange, public schools and most banks will be closed. Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when the order was read in Galveston, Texas, affirming the end of slavery for the state’s more than 250-thousand Black people in bondage.
