Chemical spill at Clemson apartment complex

On July 19, the City of Clemson discovered an illicit discharge of chemicals into the stormwater system at the Campus View Apartments Parking Deck located at 100 Daniel Drive.  There is no threat to the public at this time. City staff and the Clemson University Fire Department will continue to monitor the incident. SCDHEC has responded to the scene and will continue to monitor for potential environmental impacts.

A private cleaning company will be performing the cleanup of the area. We do not have an estimate as of yet for when this work will be completed. Emergency responders will remain on site until all potential risks have been eliminated, and CUFD will continue to conduct air monitoring until all chemicals have been removed.

In effort to contain the discharge, City of Clemson Stormwater officials will be plugging the storm drains leading to the lake. There has been no cross contamination with drinking water or other utilities.

Traffic patterns around the site will remain normal; however, Foy Creek Residents will need to access their property through the parking garage located at 114 Earle Street until emergency response vehicles leave the scene. If you are traveling in and around this area, please exercise caution and be aware of the activity and work crews.
