Chamber director strikes a blow for good mental health

For mental health awareness, each May is considered a cornerstone to address challenges faced by millions who live with mental health conditions.  Dari McBride, executive director of the Oconee Chamber of Commerce, is drawing attention to the importance of this month.  In a chamber post, McBride says, “As Gen Xer – I am usually one who ‘sucks it up’ and moves on when life gets tough.  I am realizing that often causes more problems.  So, this month I am committed to being mindful of my mental state.  When I am feeling down – I plan to focus on gratitude; when faced with challenges — I plan to step back and focus on finding a solution and when the hurriedness of life rushes upon me – I plan to stop and breathe.  I would like to encourage all of you to join me and focus on your mental state this month.  Take some time to pause and assess where you are at – take a few minutes, hours or even a day to do something for you.  In the long run, it will benefit everyone around you – personally and professionally.”
