Chairman Elliott dismisses pay hike

An incumbent Oconee County councilman says no to the idea that it’s time to raise the pay of those who serve in the part-time positions that set policy for county government.  From his seat as council chair, John Elliott this week said $8 thousand a year is fine with him.  For an alternative, he suggested, raising the pay of Mike Crenshaw, the full-time county sheriff.  About increasing Oconee councilmen’s pay by $4 thousand, to $12 thousand annually, Elliott proposed Tuesday to take the difference and add it to Crenshaw’s salary, to give the third-term sheriff a $20 thousand boost.
