Chairman Elliott, again, vows no tax hike

Chairman John Elliott of Oconee County Council sought to make clear last night that current council will not approve a property tax increase for the next budget year–2022-23.  His comments were a repeat of an earlier declaration.  Last night Elliott spoke against after an audience member suggested that the next countywide property reappraisal will have the effect of raising taxes in calendar 2023, showing up on the bills that’ll go out late in the year.  Elliott responded by saying reassessment won’t reflect on bills until the following government year–2023-24.  And he went a step farther by declaring that should he still be a councilman next year, he’ll oppose any tax increase for 2023-24.
