Burglar used a metal pipe to inflict damage

A young woman burglarized a West Union business and used a metal pipe to inflict major property damage, according to the owners of Top Shelf Storage.  Crystal Clevenger admitted her deed yesterday afternoon in the General Sessions courtroom,  but she said she could not explain why she did it, when asked by the judge.  “I have no answer for that, your honor,” she said. The crime occurred while the owners were away, but video surveillance showed a hooded Clevenger spent three hours alone in the facility wreaking damage to pipes and the heating and air conditioning unit.  Judge McIntosh spared Clevenger a prison sentence, but ordered five years’ probation, with conditions.  They include an order forbidding her to trespass on the property and requiring her to live with her mother under a 6 pm to 6 am curfew, agreeing to undergo a mental health evaluation.  The victims will be entitled to a future hearing to decide restitution.  As a security precaution the owners, the Olivers, have re-coded the gate to protect their storage customers.
