Bullets hit two squad cars — bullet nearly hit a second deputy

Oconee Sheriff Mike Crenshaw told last night’s county council meeting that, during last Thursday’s officer-involved shooting, a second deputy narrowly avoided a bullet.  In all, he told the council, bullets penetrated two squad cars. Crenshaw spoke in support of Chairman Durham’s call to seek prices on the cost for the county to equip all squad cars with ballistic-protected windshields. Those at the meeting were reminded of the stable but critical condition of Corp. Lucas Watts and requested to continue to pray for him, his wife Hailey, and the couple’s seven-week old son.  What’s been called a routine traffic stop escalated into what Crenshaw called evil — the type of evil, he said, Oconee had yet to experience.
