Barkdale Drive re-funded, Bayshore Road dropped

Road paving allocations that fall short of contractor’s estimates left the Oconee State “C” Fund Committee to re-evaluate earlier actions.  A communication from DOT in Columbia led the three-member county “C” Fund Committee yesterday to drop the re-surfacing of Bayshore Road, 1-point-7 miles in length.  It was announced at the meeting that, in this period of inflation, an allocation of $3 million dollars won’t pave three roads.  Salem town official Marti Jennings left the meeting with a new commitment from the committee.  After announcing that her town’s previous “C” Fund allocation had depleted to $82 thousand for the re- paving of Barkdale Drive, the committee voted an additional $246 thousand which when, added to the $82 thousand, is believed to meet an engineering estimate.  Jennings told the committee that Barkdale Drive is in “pretty rough shape.”
