At this hour, the state patrol reports an accident on I-85 in Oconee County has left one of the lanes of travel blocked to passing traffic.  The accident is reported on 85 near exit 2.  First reports indicate no injuries.

This afternoon’s DHEC COVID-19 report (data by 11:59 pm Wednesday) contains 632 new cases of the virus in South Carolina, including 26 in Oconee County.  Statewide, eight additional deaths are confirmed.  Of 22,238 test results, the positivity was 4.5%.

The property on which sits a building that once housed a Walhalla doctors’ practice saw a zoning change this week, but its future use is still an unknown, according to a city official.  The city board of appeals approved changing 207 Booker Drive from general residential to office commercial.

Walhalla firefighters will test and flush more than 200 hydrants in and around the city starting May 1, to ensure that the hydrants pour out the water needed during a fire.  The maintenance is helpful also to identify any problems.  Thru its bi-annual hydrant maintenance work, the tests done help Walhalla keep its city-wide insurance class 2 public protection rating.  […]

Rain forecast this weekend has led the Tamassee DAR School to postpone the “Weddings at Tamassee-Open House” scheduled tomorrow.  The new date will be Saturday, May 1–from 1 to 4 pm.
