Walhalla and the Oconee County Sheriff are on the way to an agreement. The city council last night gave a first vote to an ordinance that delegates the role of enforcing the law at the jail and other county facilities in the county seat from the city police department to the sheriff’s office.

The Walhalla city administrator says an offer will be made this week to the preferred candidate to fill a new position, to be shared by his city and nearby Westminster.
