At tonight’s meeting of West Union Town Council, town leaders take public comment on their spending plan for the next year. Mayor Linda Oliver says the proposed budget calls for a three percent pay raise for employees. The regular March meeting of the town council takes place at 6 tonight at Town Hall.

A man wanted by the state of Texas was placed into custody by the Walhalla police Saturday afternoon, when a city policeman responded to a report of a vehicle burglary at the Walhalla Gardens Apartment complex. A Sunday afternoon call for disturbance led the Walhalla police to charge four people with drug offenses. Around 1:30 Sunday afternoon, the police went to 404 E. Main Street and wound up seizing drugs and two guns. According to Chief Ronald Wilbanks, a search warrant led officers to 73.25 grams of methamphetamine and 106 grams of marijuana. The report of a disturbance led the Walhalla police early this morning to an East Main Street home and the result, according to the police chief, was a drug bust. Four suspects were jailed. Chief Ronald Wilbanks says further details of what happened will be released.

One person was transported for medical treatment as the result of what authorities say was a three-car accident this morning in front of the Community 1st Bank on highway 28, Walhalla. The accident temporarily blocked the southbound lanes.
