Auditor clarifies what’s ahead for sewer tax millage

Here is a clarification for 101.7/WGOG NEWS on what the Oconee County auditor, Christy Hubbard, envisions on the impact to retire the eventual debt  the $25 million bond issue – much of it likely to be generated for Sewer South II:

Hubbard made the following statement Wednesday:

“When I was talking last night (Tuesday) about millage for debt service I was including all the current bonds that we  have and for an estimate for  next year which was based on a small increase of the county’s total assessed value the total mills that I expect and estimate to meet will be a total of 4.3 mills.  And over the course of the next seven years after that, the millage would ratchet down as other bonds are paid off.  They would go from about 4.3 to about 3.3 in tax year 2031.  So, I expect that unless another bond or debt is incurred by the county, I expect that maybe a mill, or 1.3 mills, to be needed the next year and from there it will ratchet it down to around about 3.3….”
