Attempted murder case UPDATE

The second of two defendants in a May 2023 road
rage incident, which occurred along and near I-85 in Oconee County, was booked into the
Oconee County Detention Center last Friday afternoon.
45 year old Enrico Natfonza Mayes, of Hatchett Road in Petersburg, VA, was transported from the
Hart County (GA) Detention Center last Friday afternoon and booked into the Oconee County
Detention Center around 4:04pm on August 25th. Mayes, who remains in jail today on a combined
$507,120.00 surety bond, was served arrest warrants on two counts of Attempted Murder, one count
of Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime, and one count of Malicious
Injury to Personal Property.
The other defendant in the incident, 42 year old Derek Lydell Coleman of Montreal Avenue,
Prince George, VA, was transported from the Hart County (GA) Detention Center to the Oconee
County Detention Center on May 17th and served with arrest warrants charging him with two
counts of Attempted Murder, one count of Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a
Violent Crime, and one count of Malicious Injury to Personal Property in relation to the same
incident.
Coleman also remains in jail on a combined $250,000 surety bond. Both Mayes and Coleman
will have to wear electronic monitoring devices, as a condition of bond, should they be released.
An Investigator from the Criminal Investigations Bureau obtained arrest warrants against
Mayes and Coleman on May 10th of this year in relation to the road rage incident, where shots
were fired.
During the course of the investigation on May 10th, Coleman and Mayes were placed under arrest
and transported to the Hart County (GA) jail after a Nissan that Mayes was driving, and in which
Coleman was the passenger, was located along Georgia Highway 77.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
